65 Red Roses Mural :: Permanent Home
The "65 Red Roses" mural project I worked on back in 2010 has found a home at the BC Children's' Hospital. It is a fitting location for the mural as it is the place many kids in BC with cystic fibrosis spend their time. The unveiling will be on May 11th, 2011 at 4pm in the main lobby of the hospital. The mural was painted by members of the Federation of Canadian Artists to honour Eva Markvoort and to provide a fundraising opportunity for the Canadian Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. As previously mentioned, I submitted the above painting to the Daily Paintworks Weekly Challenge which is raising money to 'Help Japan'. At the time of this post the challenge has raised over $17,500. This painting sold for $281 and all the money from the sale will be donated to the Red Cross to aid in Japan's recovery. I thought it summed up daily life in an urban setting as I don’t think you can walk a block these days without seeing this posture. I chose to abstract the image to prove a point on how easy it is to recognize something that is part of all our daily lives now. The reference was from a photo I had taken while in Paris in 2010.
