Artist Statement
My direction of painting focuses on my perception of light and shadow throughout the composition.
These shapes define the painting’s structure, but it is the values and colour I shift to create a dynamic and interactive painting.
Biography
Michael King is from a small town in central Alberta. His interest in art began with drawing and wood carving at an early age and painting has now become his creative focus.
Michael studied industrial design at Carleton University in Ottawa and pursued a career as a product designer, living and working for an extended time in Japan before choosing to devote the majority of his free time to art.
He now resides in Port Coquitlam with his wife and two beautiful daughters, where he paints in pastels and oils. His work appears in private collections throughout Canada, and he has been fortunate to win awards in a variety of exhibitions and competitions.
